5 reads for Valentines Day

This list could go on and on but here are 5 of my current favourite books about Love – have a happy Valentines Day!

Penguin and Pinecone by Salina Yoon – One day Penguin finds a curious object in the snow. Its a lost pinecone who soon becomes his friend. Though Penguin knits him a scarf Pinecone is still too cold to live in the snow so Penguin returns him to the forest. Later Penguin returns to find his friend who has now grown into a great tree and a great friend to play with.  Together they discover that when you give love it grows and grows.

Full Full Full of Love by Trish Cooke – This is the story of Sunday lunch at Grannie’s house. Before lunch Jay Jay spends time with Gran hoping and waiting for his lunch. Eventually the family arrive – mum and dad, uncles and aunts, cousins. There is delicious food and fabulous family to share it with. Laughter, sharing and fun. After lunch Jay Jay and Grannie hug “and full of hugs they hug some more”. And as everyone leaves we are reminded that Grannie’s house is “full, full, full of love” This book overflows with the abundance of love.

Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney – Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare talk about how much they love one another. They soon find that love is not easy to measure. Big Nutbrown Hare has the final say telling Little Nutbrown Hare I love you right up to the moon and back

The Lion who wanted to Love by Giles Andreae – Leo the lion doesn’t fit in. He isn’t fierce or strong; he doesn’t want to hunt or kill. He just wants to love everybody. He soon discovers that not fitting in is hard and he is told he has no place in the pride. So he sets off into the jungle where he makes many friends and helps lots of animals. When Leo finds himself in trouble everyone comes to help him including his mum who realises that the most valuable gift there is is love.

Hug by Jez Alborough – All the animals in the jungle have someone special to hug, except for Bobo the little chimp. He hunts the jungle for the hug he needs enlisting the help of the elephants on the way. Finally he finds his mummy and gets the hug he wants.
