Toast! yesterday was a ‘game of 2 halves’ as we explored a little about Lent and launched our new theme Welcome. More about Welcome in another post but here are a few bits and pieces for those of you currently planning Lent activities.
For the younger ones we set out Pancake Play as we did last year and made fabric pancakes as a reminder of the start of Lent.
For the older ones we set up a ‘chilling area’ – cushions, chocolate milk to drink and Si Smith’s 40 to watch. 40 is a set of illustrations (40) drawn by illustrator Si Smith which have been put into a movie. Its a stunning and challenging look at Jesus wilderness experience but is very accessible for all ages. Although we had set this area up for the older ones everyone loved it.
And we used the Lent material from Christian Aid as our ‘Lent Challenge’. Everyone made a Count Your Blessings Jar – this was simply covering a glass jar with stickers, adding a ‘Count your Blessings’ label and a lid. Then we gave everyone a jar to either collect money for Christian Aid or to collect their ‘challenges’ for Lent in. Finally everyone took home a copy of the Christian Aid Count Your Blessings Lent Poster for Children to ‘challenge’ them to focus on Lent.
