feather down farm

This blog is a place for exploring children’s spirituality and creativity and for affirming the value of children and childhood.

This weekend was one of those great weekends were creativity and spirituality were at the forefront and children being children just happened! Don’t you love it when that happens?

Here’s what we got up to.

We headed to the brilliant Dolphinhome Farm near Lancaster and after a stop start journey through the Friday evening traffic we arrived – and breathed. We didn’t move from the farm until it was time to leave on Sunday but in that time adventuring happened.

We built a fire and toasted marshmallows.

Time was spent with the goats, guinea pigs, rabbits and Messy the horse.

Pizza was made and then cooked in the wood fired oven.

We waded in the stream and built dams.

Collected eggs from the chickens and made dippy eggs and soldiers.

Ran through swishy swashy grass.

Bounced on trampolines, climbed hay bales, made new friends, played with old friends, laughed, ate good food and had fun. And most of all made memories.

In the midst of all this adventuring one of the children said “You know this is all physical. God made all this”. “Yes” we replied. “No you don’t get it – in the beginning this is how God made it. People didn’t make this stream”.

And do you know what maybe we didn’t get it because we weren’t experiencing it – we weren’t jumping in and splashing and building a dam. What she understood was that God had made this amazing playground and she was going to play in it!
