Advent is a time of waiting. Whether we are waiting for presents, for the birth of a baby, for a revolution we are waiting.
Last week on the first Sunday of Advent our minister asked who was useless at waiting. Es hand shot up! Its true he is. But the next day his waiting taught me a lesson.
It was my birthday. E woke at 5.50am and from then until present opening time at 7.30 he literally bounced with excitement. Often we think of waiting as passive. But for him it is full of excitement anticipation and promise. He had no thought that I may not get any presents. He was full of confidence – and bounce!
And it struck me that that’s what Advent waiting should be. Full of excitement anticipation and confidence in what’s coming. Full of bounce!
So lets bounce through advent as we wait with excitement.
