While watching C Beebies (!) this morning I realised today is the longest day of 2013. The summer solstice.
For ages I’ve been talking about finding ways to celebrate secular festivals in a faith based way. And done nothing about it! Celebrating things like the solstices. So despite a manic day I found 20 minutes to throw together a midsummer celebration.
We celebrated the sun and all it brings. A BBQ together and chance to say thank you for sunny days together. Then planting seeds knowing the sun will help them to grow.
And finally we bought a sunflower as a reminder of the beauty and power of the sun.
Very simple but the boys loved celebrating the mid point of the year. Hopefully next year we can do it again and maybe include Toast! friends too.
