Sunflowers

With the glorious sunshine finally here we’ve been trying to spend some time in the garden and rescue some of the seeds we planted earlier in the spring. First in line – the sunflowers. A few weeks ago we each planted a sunflower seed (including one for baby T) to see whose sunflower would grow the tallest.

Tonight we re-potted and tied them and the boys had a long debate about whose was the tallest so far!

At bed time we thought further about growing sunflowers as we read the brilliant book from Barefoot Books What’s this?

The story of a girl, a cat and a bird as they watch a sunflower grow.

It was the ending that really had the boys excited. The girl takes the sunflower head into school, shakes off the seeds and shares them with her friends. So now the boys are planning a ‘seed distribution’ for the autumn!
