Knights and Soldiers

On Saturday we headed over to Chirk Castle, just outside of Wrexham, for the day. A National Trust property it had been recommended by a friend who also has 2 boys and their recommendation was spot on!

We had an amazing day.

Riding on mini tractors; exploring the castle; toasting marshmallows; making butter.

The boys were able to try on a range of armour and shields. G took part in a ‘knight’s lesson’. We explored the house, went down into the dungeon and took a look at a soldier’s bedroom.

There was a den building area, spring crafts and a castle trail. And so much more we didn’t get chance to see. I guess we will just have to go again!!
Since we got back I haven’t stopped telling people about the castle – if you are in the area you must take a lot.

I always think the measure of a day out is how it impacts the children when you return. This day really fired the boy’s imaginations and since we returned they have played various versions of knights / guards / soldiers – they have told everyone they can about their day – and they are desperate to go back. A success I think!
