Sometimes – just when you least expect it – your children show a deeper understanding than you imagine they have. And often this opens your eyes too.
Tonight I read the Easter story to the boys. As we got to the Last Supper E stopped me saying ‘I’ve got an idea’. He ran into his room returning with his tray of wooden food. ‘This is what Jesus did’ he said as he shared the food with us and then took the pieces of bread giving us a piece each. ‘Jesus said this was his body’. They both then went on to tell the story of Jesus meeting the disciples on the beach after the resurection. In both of their retellings it was the sharing food together that was important. They weren’t concerened about the symbolism or how many times Jesus appeared to his disciples. Instead they recognised that at the heart of these stories is community and hospitality. Sharing food and breaking bread together.
