DAY TWENTY FOUR: Go to the Crib Service
Today was the end of 2 things which have been key in my life through Advent.
One was the TOAST! nativity trail. Today the characters returned to the crib service to tell the story of Christmas again. The children walked the figures to Bethlehem with a few songs along the way. Then we all wrote our prayers for 2010 onto prayer baubles and hung them on the tree. The service was slightly chaotic but a lovely start to Christmas.
A new family were there tonight – they hadn’t been to church for ages as their son finds it difficult to interact in social situations. From what they said they had obviously had a hard time at some places. A friend had encouraged them to come along today. Hopefully we reassured them that there are no expectations – rules – or ways of behaving. If all that comes of today’s crib service is that the family feel OK coming along next year thats great.
The second was the advent activity calendar. It has been great carving out time in each day to spend time together and to focus on Christmas. Each day the boys have been very excited to open the pocket and see what we are doing today. I have loved having something to do together in an otherwise busy schedule. And it has given S and I time to sit and watch the boys just doing. I have to say it really has benfitted family life. Now an official tradition in our house!
