DAY NINETEEN: Go to the Philharmonic for Rudolph on Hope Street – don’t forget your bells!
Each year the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra perform a series of Christmas concerts including a set of children’s concerts. There is the usual mix of Christmassy songs to sing along to. Lots of bell ringing. And a story to carry it through.
But one of the things I love about this – and all the children’s concerts the Phil. do – is that they keep true to who they are. They are an orchestra and perform a range of music. So the children who go along expereince a range of classical and contemporary music performed by a full orchestra in a way accessible to them.
Its not about dumbing down or taking easy options. It’s about treating children as valuable music lovers in their own right.
